Abstract
Introduction
With the immense amount of tests, assignments, and homework that students get, many students report that they have been feeling more overwhelmed with school and feeling more stressed than ever. They have also reported saying that they feel more drained than in past years. Students/teens can get more drained in school because of the increasing academic pressure of getting good grades whether from parental desires of their children having good grades, high expectations from their parents, or even from themselves. This would cause them to work very hard and want to get the best grades and do more work than they think they can handle which causes excess stress on themselves and eventual feelings of being drained.
Causes and Effects
The causes of students feeling drained because of school are things like pressure from getting the homework done for a class while having many other things that they need to get done. For instance, sports, work, or other extracurricular activities that occur outside of school. These can cause excessive stress that can lead to a lack of sleep, fatigue, lack of motivation, burnout, or other issues that can cause a student's mental health to go down. Many students who juggle both school and their extracurricular activities also say that school makes them feel exhausted and
they usually don’t get much time to relax since they always have to worry about their grades, new assignments, or other struggles in their lives. This could cause school to be draining for these students who experience these types of stress or anxiety. Some students even say that the long hours of school can be very stressful for some students as well. Constant feelings of being drained can lead to students not having enough strength and motivation to work hard and get good grades. It can lead to them failing their classes if they do not act upon their feelings
and try to reduce their stress and anxiety.
What Can Students Do About This?
● Better time management
● Participate in enough daily activity or exercise
● Prioritize the work that is more important than other things
● Take breaks as much as possible
● Re-energize yourself by eating enough snacks and doing self-care activities
