Introduction :
It is evident how scientists from all over the world have helped explain mental health disciplines. They have worked diligently to discover the reasons behind mental illnesses. Many believe that science does not have much to do with mental health; this careless assumption can lead them to neglect the highly significant studies scientists carry out regarding brain and mental health. Comprehending the desirable flow of science in the course of emotional wellness is a very substantial step to an amelioration in the mental health of growing adolescents. This paper will allow parents and teens to apprehend the importance of grasping the concept of mental health through a scientific lens.
Literature Review :
The role of science
Studies by scientists from around the globe have proved how important science is in the field of mental health. However, many people easily ignore these beneficial studies. Science not only helps to navigate how to journey through such a phase but may also help in the recovery process. Science has helped to understand the cellular biology of the brain, though scientific research regarding the brain is incomplete, and whether mental illnesses are associated with the brain or not.
Results and Discussion:
Research :
Scientists do not have an utter comprehension of the causes of mental illnesses. Most scientists believe that mental illnesses arise due to complications in the communication between neurons in the brain. For instance, the level of the neurotransmitter serotonin is lower in individuals who have depression. (National Library of Medicine, nd.) Scientific research like this can lead to other beneficial studies related to mental stability.
Medicines :
Once scientists detect the causes of mental illness, this knowledge can be used to develop new treatments or to find medicine. For example, the level of the neurotransmitter serotonin is lower in individuals who have depression. This finding led to the development of certain medications. Like Selective serotonin reuptake inhibitors (SSRIs). It's thought that SSRIs work by increasing serotonin levels in the brain. So scientific research has led to findings that have contributed to the evolution of certain medicines like this which can ease symptoms, such as depression.
Risk Factors :
Scientists have identified factors that place individuals at risk; environmental, genetic, and social. All these three factors can even merge to affect one's emotional well-being.
Environmental: Injuries such as to the head, malnourishment, vulnerability to toxic materials like cigarettes and drugs
Genetic: Whether a disease runs in the family or not, maybe the interaction of several genes
Social: death of a family member or someone close to you, parental or family conflicts, financial problems, abuse, neglect, etc
Focusing on emotional well-being : (Mental Health Foundation, nd)
Certain activities, backed up by evidence from research, can help us look after our mental health. Some may be strenuous to carry out but may be very influential on our mental health. So try doing these things: ● Get closer to nature
● Get more from your sleep
● Exercise
● Eating healthy
● Being kind
● Talk to someone you trust for support
Conclusion :
To conclude, scientific research should be given importance so that its studies may help improve the world's mental health.
