Music has long played a pivotal role in adolescent culture, shaping identities, influencing emotions, and impacting behaviors. From listening to their favorite tracks through headphones to attending concerts and festivals, teenagers often turn to music as a powerful tool for self-expression and social bonding. Different views of music
Psychological view - It helps them navigate identity formation, regulate emotions and cope with social challenges. (Springer. (2023).)
Social perceptive - When people from different cultures share music, they gain valuable insights into each other's ways of life. Understanding the connection between music and social bonding becomes particularly important during times of conflict, when other forms of communication may be difficult or ineffective. Genre characteristics - Music genres vary greatly, each characterized by its distinct features and emotional tones. Like classical form is known for its calmness and others like pop or hip pop energize them. (Teen Coach Academy. (n.d.))
Positive impacts
Creativity - it helps in nurturing creativity in teens which allows them to see the world in different viewpoints.
Social skills - it helps in finding friends among peers. It helps them to connect at a deeper level. Stress relief - this helps them to calm themselves when they are in stress like academic stress. Academic - it helps in bringing out teens creativity through music (Teen Coach Academy. (n.d.))
Negative impacts
Hearing hazards - prolonged exposure to loud music can lead to hearing loss.This is because teens tend to use headphones with high volumes for a longer time period.
Lyric influence - certain music lyrics influence teens behaviour badly. Songs that promote violence, unhealthy relations etc last on young minds longer.
Academic distraction - though this has a mixed view for some of them music while studying or doing projects are just a distraction. (Teen Coach Academy. (n.d.))
