Impostor syndrome is the feeling that you do not deserve success although possessing the skills and merits. Examples include thinking that you did not deserve the A grade you got for the mathematics test, although you studied diligently every day, or thinking that the most hard-working person is the one who works the most hours.1
Almost everyone experiences imposter syndrome at some point, so learning how to manage these feelings is critical.2
Steps to take back that power
1. Talk it out! Talking to your close friends and family can help them understand what you are thinking and provide the support and encouragement you need. 2. Pen it down! Writing your thoughts down can help you understand what you are feeling.
You can also consider answering these questions:
● State three things you are proud of. What are the steps you took to achieve these accomplishments? What are things that make me happy?
● Is there an activity I can engage myself in now?
“You have power over your mind—not outside events. Realize this, and you will find strength.”Marcus Aurelius
